Foundations in Global Service

(Concurrent with Host Defenses)

This course will be an introduction to hands-on global health work. Specifically, it will address the obstacles of executing projects in a resource-poor environment, provide tools for achieving project goals and equip students with a service mentality aligned with the needs of the community with which they propose to work. This interactive course is intended to offer practical knowledge about global service that will serve as a foundation for all future work, abroad and at home.

  • Week 1: Logistical/Vaccination Workshop & Physical Well-being, Safety, & Mental Health
  • Week 2: IRBs and Ethics involving research in Resource Poor Settings
  • Week 3: Basic Clinical Skills
  • Week 4: Practicing in poverty
  • Week 5: Grant Guidelines and Logistics
  • Week 6 (held in August): Reflection Session
