This lecture is going to focus on the top five causes of maternal mortality (primarily medical causes).  Secondary causes of maternal mortality (lack of accessibility to hospitals, poor road conditions, education, etc) will be highlighted through the case study discussion.  

• Develop an understanding of the current state of maternal and child health.

• Critically assess the most appropriate intervention strategies for combating poor maternal and child health.

• Gain a greater understanding of the importance of maternal and child health, as a integral part of a community health and productivity.
