"Behavior Change in Global Health Initiatives" Cora Walsh, MHCD MD Student Naomi Shike, MHCD MD Student Overview In this session, we will present the basic principles of health behavior change and participatory community health interventions. Discussion will focus on the community health psychology approach to health behavior change and what that looks like in practice. We will then consider two case studies: the Sonogachi Project in Calcutta, India and the Summertown Project in South Africa, whose focus in on the health of prostitutes. Questions to consider include: what is the role for participatory health interventions in global health? How do such programs work and what makes them effective? Can we measure outcomes from these interventions? How might physicians use this information in the care of their patients?
