Open to first-year medical students Mondays, 2:00-3:30pm 14 sessions 8/30/11 - 11/28/11 (Concurrent with Molecules, Genes, and Cells) Location: A-126, unless otherwise noted. Introduction to Global Health: A Case-Based Approach introduces first-year students to 13 key topics in global health through weekly seminars, which are 1.5 hours in length. Speakers include global health leaders from academia, policy institutions, and the private sector. The final thirty minutes of each lecture is devoted to a case-based discussion led by the students. Gain an understanding of global health issues; 2. Appreciate that global health involves multiple academic disciplines and belief systems; 3. Understand the important relationships of demography, epidemiology, development, and global health; 4. Develop methods for analyzing topics in global health and be able to devise potential solutions to these problems (with the help of case studies, etc.) Expectations of Students:
